Abstract :
Throughout its lifecycle, the wire harness in a vehicle experiences changes from external factors, ageing, or unintended actions that can affect the electrical system performance and reliability. With the growing complexity of modern cars, challenges exist in accurate diagnosis of the wire harnesses, despite various methods like visual inspections, X-rays, thermal imaging, Line Impedance Resonant Analysis (LIRA), and reflectometry. Although reflectometry is promising, its sensor-based is expensive for automotive use. It becomes more and more critical to evaluate electrical wiring at the manufacturing and during the lifetime of the vehicle. This thesis introduces an impedance map concept, measuring impedance parameters (resistance and inductance) of power network lines as matrices. Accurate, chip-integrable methods are needed to estimate the wire line resistance and inductance. The developed inductance measurement method can detect 10 cm of wire length variations while the developed line resistance measurement method is capable of identifying 5 mΩ variation. The latter method also measures load capacitance value changes. The designed boards for line inductance, resistance, and load capacitance measurement are used for a wire health check system that allow to establish an impedance map for a three-line power network test.
